When you write your thoughts spill onto the page like blood in a horror movie. All over the place. So I get told, write with a plan. Referring to my plan for this article, I see a blank sheet of paper. No, in fact it is not even made of paper. It is a blank space of air.
I learned early on that there are two ways to write. With a plan, or an outline, or even just an intention to say something. An then there is writing from the gut.
You often hear of “gut instinct”, or “got with your gut feeling”. It is a bit like saying “pursue your hunger”. Or explore your neediness.
That is not what I mean. Today I read an article about how the “heart” remembers. No, not some romantic tosh or para-mystical cobblers. The organ in the body of a murder victim was transplanted to another person who then started to have dreams that a (probably fictional, I know) psychologist consulted with police and hey presto they caught the murderer. I do not mean to make fun of the article which was making a point how the heart remembers, but my point is more that the mind resides in every part of you, and ideas may come from within. Funny way of explaining it. But lets be modern, and say “all good”.
I will take another turn. This modern language of indifference. “OK Boomer,” why do we need to reduced to our behaviour or even the expected behaviour of others our age?
We don’t. We have value as individuals. We have value as a tiny part of the world. Some people exert their value more than others.
Those who are in touch with their inner self, with every part of themselves have a unique advantage. They can be honest with you.
There is no need to pretend if you are comfortable with yourself. In your gut.
Tell the truth. If you can. If not, we understand.
